About Cultural & Creative Arts Lesson Notes
Cultural and Creative Arts brings together visual art, craft, music, drama and dance. On this site the notes run from Basic 1 to JSS3, so one subject carries a learner from the first lessons to the end of junior secondary school.
Early notes cover colours, shapes, drawing, tonic sol-fa, rhymes and traditional songs. Middle classes cover modelling with papier mâché, tie and dye, the staff and note values, Nigerian musical instruments, and play production. JSS notes move to elements and principles of design, beadwork, choreography, package design, batik, and careers in art, drama and dance.
What students learn
By the end of JSS3, a student who has worked through these notes should be able to:
- Define art, music, drama and dance and name their main forms and types
- Apply the elements and principles of design in drawing, pattern and colour work
- Make craft items such as beadwork, collage, mosaic, tie and dye, batik and papier mâché models
- Read and write simple music using the staff, clefs, note values and tonic sol-fa
- Identify Nigerian and African musical instruments and the sounds they produce
- Describe how a play is produced, including costume, make-up, casting and rehearsal
- Explain the process of choreography and the forms of dance
- Discuss how artwork is packaged, marketed and funded as a business

How we prepare our lesson notes
Each note covers one topic for one class and one term, and the notes follow teaching order. Every note has behavioural objectives, the lesson content in short sections, evaluation questions and an assignment drawn from the same note.
Notes are edited for accuracy, plain language and the right level for the class before they are published.
Every note is free to read online. A PDF or Word copy of one subject costs ₦1,000 for one term, or ₦2,000 for all three terms. If you find a mistake, tell us and we will correct it.
