Topic: Definitions of Music, Sound, and Noise
What is Sound?
Sound is:
- Anything we can hear with our ears
- Vibrations that travel through the air
- What reaches our ears and makes us hear things
- All the things we listen to around us
Examples of Sound:
- People talking and laughing
- Birds singing in trees
- Cars moving on the road
- Water flowing in rivers
- Wind blowing through leaves
- Dogs barking and cats meowing
How Sound is Made:
- Things vibrate (shake back and forth)
- Air carries the vibrations to our ears
- Our ears pick up the vibrations
- Our brain understands what we hear
What is Music?

Music is:
- Beautiful sounds put together in a nice way
- Organized sounds that have rhythm and melody
- Pleasing sounds that make us feel good
- Art made with sounds and voices
Parts of Music:
- Melody – the tune we can sing along with
- Rhythm – the beat that makes us want to dance
- Harmony – different sounds that go well together
- Tempo – how fast or slow the music goes
Examples of Music:
- Songs we sing in school
- Lullabies that help babies sleep
- Dance music that makes us move
- Traditional songs from our culture
- Religious songs in churches and mosques
- Birthday songs and celebration music
How Music is Made:
- Singing with our voices
- Playing instruments like drums, flutes, guitars
- Clapping hands and stamping feet
- Using musical equipment and technology
What is Noise?

Noise is:
- Unwanted or unpleasant sounds
- Loud sounds that disturb us
- Sounds that we don’t want to hear
- Harsh sounds that can hurt our ears
Examples of Noise:
- Very loud car horns
- Construction machines working
- People shouting angrily
- Machines making harsh sounds
- Too much loud music
- Thunder during storms (though some people like it!)
Problems with Noise:
- Hurts our ears if too loud
- Makes it hard to concentrate
- Disturbs our sleep and rest
- Makes us feel stressed or annoyed
Differences Between Music, Sound, and Noise

Examples in Daily Life

Music We Enjoy:

Noise We Avoid:

How to Tell the Difference
Ask Yourself:

- Does it have a nice rhythm or melody?
- Does it make me feel good or bad?
- Is it organized or just random sounds?
Simple Rules:
- If it’s pleasant and organized → Music
- If it’s unpleasant and disturbing → Noise
- If it’s just something you hear → Sound
Importance of Understanding These Differences
