About Digital Technologies Lesson Notes

Digital Technologies is the study of how computers, networks and software are used to create, store, share and protect information. On this site it runs from SS1 to SS3, and the notes follow the topics in order from one term to the next.

SS1 covers number systems, computer hardware, operating systems, networks, the internet, cybersecurity, word processing, spreadsheets and databases. SS2 moves to web design, programming, data science, machine learning, mobile applications and blockchain. SS3 covers advanced programming, the software development lifecycle, cloud and virtualisation, project management, SSCE revision and practical projects.

What students learn

By the end of SS3, a student who has worked through these notes should be able to:

  • Explain the main parts of a computer system, including hardware, operating systems and data representation
  • Convert between number systems and describe how data is represented
  • Describe how computer networks, the internet and cloud services work
  • Apply cybersecurity, data privacy and backup methods to protect information
  • Produce documents, spreadsheets, presentations and databases using suitable software tools
  • Design and publish a simple website
  • Write programs that use control structures and follow the stages of the software development lifecycle
  • Describe emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, the Internet of Things and blockchain

How we prepare our lesson notes

Each note covers one topic for one class and one term, and the notes are arranged in teaching order. Every note has behavioural objectives, the lesson content in short sections, evaluation questions and an assignment drawn from the same note.

Before publication, the notes are edited for accuracy, plain language and the right level for the class. Teachers can use them as a base for lesson planning and adapt them to their own pupils and school resources.

Every note is free to read online. A PDF or Word copy of one subject costs ₦1,000 for one term, or ₦2,000 for all three terms. If you find a mistake, tell us and we will correct it.
