Topic: Package Designs

Meaning: 

Package design is a visual pictorial and textual information created on the surface of a product package or container to advertise the contents and name to a prospective buyer. 

Most package designs on products consist of pictures (pictorial) and text information (Textual) which are used together to communicate products to prospective buyers. A package is a container in which the manufacturer’s products are kept as they are being passed to the final consumer. A package must be durable and presentable to keep the enclosed products preserved and arouse the interest of the buyer. Different products like liquid, gas, grain, bars, powder, cloth, plastic, etc. are packaged in various forms of well-designed packages. 

Methods and Functions of Package Design 

Some forms of packaging include cartons, bottles, cans, wrappers, bags, etc. 

A design package like those mentioned above is a container for the manufacturer’s product and must be able to; 

  1. Protect the products from damage 
  2. Protect the products from being contaminated. 
  3. Present basic instructions on usage e.g. manual 
  4. Keep the product fresh for a specified period as indicated e.g. milk, butter, beverages, etc. 
  5. Arouse the interest of prospective buyers through attractive and colorful design. 
  6. The name of the product must be visible

Advertising: Packages serve as a marketing tool to promote the product.

Protection: They protect the product from damage.

Durability: Essential for maintaining the integrity of the product during transport and storage.
