Learning Objectives

  • List the uses of staff or stave
  • Sing the school anthem/national anthem

Introduction

Music is written on special lines called a staff or stave. This helps musicians know which notes to play or sing. Today we will learn about the music staff.

Content

What is Music Staff (Stave)? The music staff is:

  • Five horizontal lines for writing music
  • A system to show high and low sounds
  • Where musical notes are placed
  • Used by musicians worldwide

Parts of the Staff:

  1. Five lines – numbered from bottom to top
  2. Four spaces – between the lines
  3. Clef -symbol at the beginning
  4. Notes – placed on lines and spaces

Uses of Staff/Stave:

  • Writing down music so we don’t forget
  • Teaching people how to sing songs
  • Helping musicians play together
  • Showing which sounds are high or low
  • Keeping music organized
  • Sharing music with others

Types of Clef:

  1. Treble Clef – for high sounds (like children’s voices)
  2. Bass Clef – for low sounds (like men’s voices)

Learning Songs:

  • School Anthem – special song for our school
  • National Anthem – Nigeria’s special song
  • These songs show love for school and country

Activity

  1. Draw five lines to make a staff
