Content
What is Casting? Casting is the process of selecting actors for specific roles in a play or performance. It involves choosing the right person for each character based on their abilities, appearance, and suitability for the role.
The Casting Process:
- Script Analysis – Understanding the characters needed
- Auditions – Actors try out for roles
- Callbacks – Second round of auditions for shortlisted actors
- Final Selection – Choosing actors for each role
- Understudies – Backup actors in case main actors can’t perform
Factors Considered in Casting:
- Acting ability and experience
- Voice quality and projection
- Physical suitability for the character
- Ability to memorize lines
- Reliability and commitment
- Chemistry with other actors
What is Rehearsal? Rehearsal is the practice time when actors prepare for their performance. It’s when the cast and crew work together to perfect the play before presenting it to an audience.
Types of Rehearsals:
- Read-through – First reading of the entire script
- Blocking Rehearsal – Learning where to move on stage
- Line Rehearsal – Memorizing and practicing dialogue
- Technical Rehearsal – Practicing with lights, sound, and effects
- Dress Rehearsal – Full practice with costumes and makeup
- Final Rehearsal – Last practice before performance
