Topic: Elements of Design

What is Design?

Design is how we make things look beautiful and organized using different parts.

7 Basic Elements of Design

  1. Line

Straight, curved, thick, or thin marks

  • Examples: ——— ~~~~~ /////
  1. Shape

Flat forms like circles, squares, triangles

  • Examples: ○ □ △
  1. Form

3D objects like balls, boxes, pyramids

  • Examples: sphere, cube, cone
  1. Color

Red, blue, yellow, green, and all other colors

  1. Texture

How things feel – smooth, rough, soft, hard

  1. Space

Empty areas around and between objects

  1. Value

Light and dark – how bright or dim something is

Exercise 1: Name the Element

Look at these and write which element they show:

  1. A circle drawn on paper: ________
  2. Red paint: ________

Exercise 2: Fill in the Blanks

In your classroom, find and write down:
