About Islamic Studies Lesson Notes

Islamic Studies teaches pupils the beliefs, worship, history and moral teaching of Islam. These notes run from Basic 1 to SS3 and follow the subject through the Qur’an, Hadith, Tawhid, Fiqh and Sirah.

In the lower classes the notes cover Arabic letters, short surahs such as Al-Fatihah and Al-Ikhlas, ablution, the five daily prayers and stories of the prophets. Later classes move to An-Nawawi’s Hadith collection, the Names and Attributes of Allah, the Rightly Guided Caliphs, Zakah, Sawm, Hajj, inheritance, marriage and Islamic moral education.

What students learn

By the end of SS3, a student who has worked through these notes should be able to:

  • Recite and explain the meaning of selected surahs of the Qur’an, such as Al-Fatihah, Al-Mulk and Al-Ikhlas
  • Describe the steps and rules of ablution, tayammum and the daily prayers, including Jumu’ah and prostration of forgetfulness
  • State the articles of faith, including belief in Allah, the angels, the revealed books and life after death
  • Explain selected hadiths from An-Nawawi’s Collection and how hadith is collected and classified
  • Outline the life of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), from his birth to the Hijrah and the conquest of Makkah
  • Describe the contributions of the Rightly Guided Caliphs and of Uthman Dan Fodio
  • Explain the rules of Zakah, Sawm, Hajj, marriage, divorce and inheritance in Islam
  • Apply Islamic moral teachings such as truthfulness, kindness to parents, modesty and perseverance in daily life

How we prepare our lesson notes

Each note covers one topic for one class and one term, and the notes are arranged in teaching order. Every note has behavioural objectives, the lesson content set out in short sections, evaluation questions and an assignment drawn from the same note.

Before publication, notes are edited for accuracy, plain language and the right level for the class. Teachers can then use them with little change or adapt them to their own pupils.

Every note is free to read online. A PDF or Word copy of one subject costs ₦1,000 for one term, or ₦2,000 for all three terms. If you find a mistake, tell us and we will correct it.
