Suratul Nasr – Reading And Meaning JSS1 Islamic Studies Lesson Note

Suratul Nasr is the 110th chapter (surah) of the Holy Quran. It is a short surah with only three verses. This surah was revealed to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) near the end of his life. It is a very special and important surah that brings good news and teaches us important lessons.

The Arabic Text of Suratul Nasr

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

إِذَا جَاءَ نَصْرُ اللَّهِ وَالْفَتْحُ

وَرَأَيْتَ النَّاسَ يَدْخُلُونَ فِي دِينِ اللَّهِ أَفْوَاجًا

فَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ وَاسْتَغْفِرْ ۚ إِنَّهُ كَانَ تَوَّابًا

The Meaning of Suratul Nasr

First Verse: Allah’s Help and Victory

Arabic: إِذَا جَاءَ نَصْرُ اللَّهِ وَالْفَتْحُ Translation: “When the help of Allah comes and the victory”

This verse tells us that Allah will help Prophet Muhammad and the Muslims. It promises that they will be successful and win over their enemies. The word “Nasr” means help, and “Fath” means victory.

Second Verse: People Entering Islam

Arabic: وَرَأَيْتَ النَّاسَ يَدْخُلُونَ فِي دِينِ اللَّهِ أَفْوَاجًا Translation: “And you see the people entering the religion of Allah in groups”

This verse is about many people accepting Islam. “Afwajan” means in big groups. It shows that after the victory, many people will come to Islam and become Muslims.

Third Verse: Praising and Asking Forgiveness

Arabic: فَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ وَاسْتَغْفِرْ ۚ إِنَّهُ كَانَ تَوَّابًا Translation: “So glorify the praises of your Lord and ask for His forgiveness. Indeed, He is ever Accepting of repentance”

This verse teaches Prophet Muhammad (and all Muslims) to:

• Praise Allah
• Ask for forgiveness
• Remember that Allah is always ready to forgive

This surah was revealed when Islam was becoming strong. The Prophet had conquered Mecca, and many people were becoming Muslims. It was a time of great happiness and success for the Muslim community.
