How do attributes 41 to 50 fit together?

The ten attributes can be grouped into five ideas about how Allah deals with us.

  1. Protector and provider: Al-Hafiz and Al-Muqit show that Allah protects us and provides for our needs.
  2. Watching and aware: Al-Hasib and Ar-Raqib remind us that Allah knows everything we do.
  3. Perfect in greatness: Al-Jalil and Al-Wasi’ describe Allah’s unlimited greatness.
  4. Good to us: Al-Karim, Al-Mujib and Al-Wadud show that Allah treats us with kindness and love.
  5. Purpose in all He does: Al-Hakim reminds us that His actions and commands have perfect wisdom.

How can we apply these attributes in our lives?

A Muslim applies these names by letting them guide worship, character and daily choices.

  1. In worship: worship Allah with understanding and call on Him by these names in prayer.
  2. In character: reflect some attributes in our behaviour, such as being generous like Al-Karim and responding to those in need like Al-Mujib.
  3. In hardship: remember that Al-Hafiz protects us, Al-Muqit provides for us and Al-Hakim has wisdom in everything that happens.
  4. In relationships: treat others with the love and generosity that Allah shows to us.
  5. In daily actions: be mindful that Ar-Raqib is watching us and Al-Hasib is taking account of our deeds.

How can we remember these attributes?

There are five simple ways to remember and benefit from these attributes.

  1. Learn one name each day: study one attribute a day for ten days.
  2. Use them in dua: call on Allah by these names, for example, “O Al-Mujib, please answer my prayer.”
  3. Reflect daily: spend a few minutes thinking about how one attribute affects your life.
  4. Teach others: share what you learn with family and friends.
  5. Notice them in the world: see Allah’s generosity (Al-Karim) in the variety of fruits and foods He has created.

Evaluation

  1. Write the names of attributes 41 to 50 of Allah and give the meaning of each.
  2. What does Al-Hasib teach us about our actions?
  3. Explain how Al-Muqit should affect the way we treat people in need.
  4. What should a Muslim do after making dua, according to the attribute Al-Mujib?
  5. Give two ways of remembering these attributes in daily life.

  1. Choose three of the attributes in this lesson. For each, write its meaning and two ways it affects a Muslim’s life. Then write one short dua that uses one of the names Al-Mujib, Al-Karim or Al-Hafiz.
