LESSON CONTENT

Introduction (5 minutes)

  • Greet pupils with “As-salamu alaikum”
  • Review previous lesson on Imam Malik
  • Introduce today’s topic: Surah Al-Alaq (verses 11-19)

Special Significance: Contains the first verses revealed to Prophet Muhammad (SAW)

ARABIC TEXT OF VERSES 11-19

Verse 11: أَرَأَيْتَ إِن كَانَ عَلَى الْهُدَىٰ Ara’ayta in kana ‘alal-huda

Verse 12: أَوْ أَمَرَ بِالتَّقْوَىٰ Aw amara bit-taqwa

Verse 13: أَرَأَيْتَ إِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ Ara’ayta in kadhdhaba wa tawalla

Verse 14: أَلَمْ يَعْلَم بِأَنَّ اللَّهَ يَرَىٰ Alam ya’lam bi-annallaha yara

Verse 15: كَلَّا لَئِن لَّمْ يَنتَهِ لَنَسْفَعًا بِالنَّاصِيَةِ Kalla la’il-lam yantahi lanasfa’an bin-nasiya

Verse 16: نَاصِيَةٍ كَاذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٍ Nasiyatin kadhibatin khati’a

Verse 17: فَلْيَدْعُ نَادِيَهُ Falyad’u nadiya

Verse 18: سَنَدْعُ الزَّبَانِيَةَ Sanad’uz-zabaniya

Verse 19: كَلَّا لَا تُطِعْهُ وَاسْجُدْ وَاقْتَرِب ۩ Kalla la tuti’hu wasjud waqtarib

ENGLISH TRANSLATION

Verse 11: “Have you seen if he is upon guidance”

Verse 12: “Or enjoins righteousness?”

Verse 13: “Have you seen if he denies and turns away”

Verse 14: “Does he not know that Allah sees?”

Verse 15: “No! If he does not desist, We will surely drag him by the forelock”

Verse 16: “A lying, sinning forelock”

Verse 17: “Then let him call his associates”

Verse 18: “We will call the angels of Hell”

Verse 19: “No! Do not obey him. But prostrate and draw near [to Allah]”

CONTEXT AND BACKGROUND

Historical Context:

  • These verses were revealed about Abu Jahl (Abu al-Hakam)
  • Abu Jahl was a chief enemy of Islam in Makkah
  • He tried to stop Prophet Muhammad (SAW) from praying at the Kaaba
  • He threatened the Prophet and opposed the message of Islam

The Story:

  1. Prophet Muhammad (SAW) was praying at the Kaaba
  2. Abu Jahl saw him and became angry
  3. Abu Jahl threatened to step on the Prophet’s neck
  4. When he approached, he suddenly stepped back in fear
  5. He claimed he saw a ditch of fire and terrifying beings
  6. These verses were revealed as a response to this incident

PURPOSE AND IMPORTANCE OF THE REVELATION

1. Warning Against Arrogance

  • The verses warn against pride and arrogance
  • They show that Allah sees everything we do
  • No one can escape Allah’s knowledge and judgment

2. Protection of the Prophet

  • Allah protected His messenger from enemies
