Suratul Mulk vs 21-30 – JSS3 Islamic Studies Lesson Note (Third Term)

Suratul Mulk is the 67th chapter of the Holy Quran, and verses 21 to 30 teach that Allah alone provides, guides and judges.

• Al-Mulk: means “The Kingdom” or “The Sovereignty”, showing Allah’s power and control over everything.
• Verses 21-30: teach thankfulness, guidance, the Day of Judgment and trust in Allah.

What are the key terms in Suratul Mulk verses 21 to 30?

• Provision: everything Allah gives us to live, such as food, water, air and health.
• Guidance: Allah’s direction that shows a person the right way to live.
• Straight path: the way of Islam, which leads to success in this life and the next.
• Warner: a person sent to warn others of danger. Prophet Muhammad (SAW) is called a clear warner.
• Day of Judgment: the day all people return to Allah and are judged for their deeds.
• Trust in Allah (tawakkul): depending on Allah after doing our best.
• Gratitude (shukr): thanking Allah in words and in actions.

What do verses 21 to 30 of Suratul Mulk teach?

What does verse 21 teach about Allah as the provider?

Verse 21 asks who can provide for people if Allah withholds His provision.

• Only provider: Allah is the true source of all provision.
• No other helper: nobody can give food, water, air or life if Allah holds them back.
• Everyday gifts: the food on our table, the water we drink and the air we breathe come from Allah.
• Disbelievers’ attitude: the verse says they continue in pride and in turning away from the truth.
• Our duty: we should thank Allah for everything we have.

What does verse 22 teach about guidance and the wrong path?

Verse 22 compares a person walking with his face down to a person walking upright on a straight path.

• Face down: a person without Allah’s guidance, who stumbles and cannot see the right way.
• Upright on a straight path: a person who follows Allah’s guidance and walks clearly and safely.
• Result: the right path leads to success, while the wrong path leads to failure.
• Our choice: we should follow Allah’s guidance for a good life.

What do verses 23 and 24 teach about Allah’s creation of humans?

Verses 23 and 24 remind people that Allah created them and gave them the means to learn and understand.

• Creation: Allah created us.
• Gifts: He gave us hearing, sight and hearts (minds).
• Little thanks: the verse says few people are truly grateful for these gifts.
• Spread on earth: Allah multiplied humans and spread them across the earth.
• Return: all people will be gathered before Him.

How should we use these gifts?

• Hearing: listen to good words, the Quran and sound teaching.
• Sight: look at Allah’s creation and see His signs.
• Heart (mind): think about and understand Allah’s message.

What do verses 25 and 26 teach about the Day of Judgment?

Verses 25 and 26 say that only Allah knows when the Day of Judgment will come.

• The question: disbelievers ask when the promised day will come.
• The answer: the knowledge of its time is with Allah alone.
• The Prophet’s role: Prophet Muhammad (SAW) is only a clear warner.
• Our duty: we should prepare by believing, praying and doing good deeds.

What do verses 27 and 28 teach about the state of disbelievers?

Verses 27 and 28 describe the distress of disbelievers when they see the punishment close.

• Their faces: will be sad and distressed.
• What they are told: “This is what you used to ask for.”
• Verse 28: asks who can protect disbelievers from a painful punishment, whether Allah destroys the believers or shows them mercy.
• No escape: nobody can save them from Allah’s judgment.
• Lesson: we should believe now, because there is no second chance on that day.

What do verses 29 and 30 teach about Allah’s mercy and power?

Verses 29 and 30 teach that believers trust in the Most Merciful, who alone controls water.

• Most Merciful: Allah is full of mercy.
• Belief and trust: believers say they believe in Him and rely on Him alone.
• Clear error: those who disbelieve will soon know who was in clear error.
• The water question: if your water sank deep into the earth, who could bring flowing water back to you?
• Answer: only Allah can do this.
• Why water matters: all living things need water, so this verse shows how much we depend on Allah.

What lessons do we learn from these verses?

There are six main lessons from Suratul Mulk verses 21 to 30.

1. We must be thankful to Allah for all His blessings.
2. We should use our hearing, sight and minds to understand Allah’s message.
3. We must follow the straight path of Islam.
4. We should prepare for the Day of Judgment.
5. We should trust in Allah for all our needs.
6. We should accept that everything comes from Allah alone.
