Arabic Text and Pronunciation

Verse 1: وَيْلٌ لِّكُلِّ هُمَزَةٍ لُّمَزَةٍ Waylun li-kulli humazatin lumazah

Verse 2: الَّذِي جَمَعَ مَالًا وَعَدَّدَهُ Alladhī jama’a mālan wa ‘addadah

Verse 3: يَحْسَبُ أَنَّ مَالَهُ أَخْلَدَهُ Yahsabu anna mālahu akhladah

Verse 4: كَلَّا لَيُنبَذَنَّ فِي الْحُطَمَةِ Kallā la-yunbadhanna fi’l-hutamah

Verse 5: وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا الْحُطَمَةُ Wa mā adrāka ma’l-hutamah

Verse 6: نَارُ اللَّهِ الْمُوقَدَةُ Nāru’llāhi’l-mūqadah

Verse 7: الَّتِي تَطَّلِعُ عَلَى الْأَفْئِدَةِ Allatī tattali’u ‘ala’l-af’idah

Verse 8: إِنَّهَا عَلَيْهِم مُّؤْصَدَةٌ Innahā ‘alayhim mu’sadah

Verse 9: فِي عَمَدٍ مُّمَدَّدَةٍ Fī ‘amadin mumaddadah

English Translation

Verse 1: “Woe to every scorner and mocker”

Verse 2: “Who collects wealth and counts it”

Verse 3: “He thinks that his wealth will make him live forever”

Verse 4: “No! He will surely be thrown into the Crusher”

Verse 5: “And what can make you know what is the Crusher?”

Verse 6: “It is the fire of Allah, kindled”

Verse 7: “Which mounts directed at the hearts”

Verse 8: “Indeed, it will be closed over them”

Verse 9: “In extended columns”

Simple Translation for Children

• Verse 1: Punishment for people who make fun of others and hurt their feelings
• Verse 2: People who only care about collecting money and counting it
• Verse 3: They think their money will make them live forever
• Verse 4: No! They will be thrown into a terrible crushing fire
• Verse 5: Do you know what this crushing fire is?
• Verse 6: It’s Allah’s fire that burns very hot
• Verse 7: This fire reaches into people’s hearts
• Verse 8: They will be trapped inside it
• Verse 9: With tall pillars around them
