LESSON CONTENT

Introduction (5 minutes)

• Review previous Quranic chapters studied
• Introduce Suratul-‘Adiyah as Chapter 100 of the Holy Quran
• Explain that “‘Adiyah” means “Those that run” or “The charging horses”

Suratul-‘Adiyah (Chapter 100)

Arabic Text:

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

وَالْعَادِيَاتِ ضَبْحًا ﴿١﴾

فَالْمُورِيَاتِ قَدْحًا ﴿٢﴾

فَالْمُغِيرَاتِ صُبْحًا ﴿٣﴾

فَأَثَرْنَ بِهِ نَقْعًا ﴿٤﴾

فَوَسَطْنَ بِهِ جَمْعًا ﴿٥﴾

إِنَّ الْإِنسَانَ لِرَبِّهِ لَكَنُودٌ ﴿٦﴾

وَإِنَّهُ عَلَىٰ ذَٰلِكَ لَشَهِيدٌ ﴿٧﴾

وَإِنَّهُ لِحُبِّ الْخَيْرِ لَشَدِيدٌ ﴿٨﴾

أَفَلَا يَعْلَمُ إِذَا بُعْثِرَ مَا فِي الْقُبُورِ ﴿٩﴾

وَحُصِّلَ مَا فِي الصُّدُورِ ﴿١٠﴾

إِنَّ رَبَّهُمْ بِهِمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ لَّخَبِيرٌ ﴿١١﴾

Transliteration:

1. Wal-‘aadiyaati dabhan
2. Fal-mooriyaati qadhan
3. Fal-mugheeraati subhan
4. Fa atharna bihee naq’an
5. Fa wasatna bihee jam’an
6. Innal-insaana li-rabbihee la-kanood
7. Wa innahu ‘alaa dhaalika la-shaheed
8. Wa innahu li-hubbil-khayri la-shadeed
9. Afalaa ya’lamu idhaa bu’thira maa fil-quboor
10. Wa hussila maa fis-sudoor
11. Inna rabbahum bihim yawma-idhin la-khabeer

Translation and Meaning (10 minutes)

English Translation:

1. By the charging horses, panting,
2. And the producers of sparks [when] striking,
3. And the chargers at dawn,
4. Stirring up thereby [clouds of] dust,
5. And penetrating thereby into the midst [of the enemy],
6. Indeed mankind, to his Lord, is ungrateful.
7. And indeed, he is to that a witness.
8. And indeed he is, in love of wealth, intense.
9. But does he not know that when the contents of the graves are scattered
10. And that within the breasts is obtained,
11. Indeed, their Lord with them, that Day, is [fully] Acquainted.

Simple Explanation:

• Verses 1-5: Allah swears by war horses to show their strength and dedication
• Verses 6-8: Humans are often ungrateful and love wealth too much
• Verses 9-11: On the Day of Judgment, Allah will know everything about us

Purpose and Importance of the Surah (8 minutes)

Main Themes:

   • Warns us about being too attached to worldly things

   • Reminds us to prepare for the afterlife
