What is Salātul-Jamā’ah?

Meaning:

• Salāh: Prayer
• Jamā’ah: Congregation/group
• Together: Praying with other Muslims as a group

Practical Demonstration

How to Arrange for Congregational Prayer

Step 1: Setting Up

• Face the Qiblah direction
• Imam stands in front
• People line up in straight rows behind Imam
• Stand close together (shoulder to shoulder)

Step 2: Starting Prayer

• Imam says “Allahu Akbar” loudly
• Everyone else says it quietly
• Imam recites Surah Al-Fatihah aloud
• Followers listen quietly

Step 3: Following the Imam

• When Imam bows, everyone bows
• When Imam stands, everyone stands
• When Imam prostrates, everyone prostrates
• Never go before the Imam

Step 4: Ending Prayer

Conditions for Congregational Prayer

Requirements for Valid Congregational Prayer

1. Minimum Number:

• At least 2 people (1 Imam + 1 follower)
• No maximum limit
• More people = more reward

2. Imam Qualifications:

• Must be Muslim
• Should know Qur’an well
• Should be of good character
• Usually an adult male leads

3. Following the Imam:

• Don’t go before Imam in any movement
• If you arrive late, join quietly
• Complete missed parts after Imam finishes
• Stay in line with others

4. Place and Time:

• Can be done in mosque, home, or clean place
• Must be at proper prayer times
• Face Qiblah direction
• Area should be clean

• Parents should teach proper behavior
• Stay quiet during prayer
• Follow Imam’s movements
