About Physics Lesson Notes
Physics is the study of matter, energy, motion and the forces that act on them. On this site it is covered from SS1 to SS3, the senior secondary classes in Nigerian schools.
The notes begin with quantities and units, motion, speed, velocity and acceleration. They then move through work, energy and power, heat, gas laws, waves, light, lenses and sound. Later topics include electric and magnetic fields, capacitors, semiconductors, electromagnetic induction, AC circuits, atomic models, radioactivity and energy quantization.
What students learn
By the end of SS3, a student who has worked through these notes should be able to:
- Distinguish fundamental and derived quantities, and scalars and vectors
- Apply the equations of linear motion to problems on speed, velocity, acceleration and projectiles
- State Newton’s laws of motion and use them with equilibrium of forces and simple harmonic motion
- Describe heat capacity, latent heat, evaporation and vapour pressure, and use the gas laws
- Explain how waves are produced and how light and sound waves behave
- Describe how prisms and lenses work, and how they are used in optical instruments
- Explain electric fields, electrostatics, capacitance and electrical conduction through solids, liquids and gases
- Describe electromagnetic induction, simple AC circuits, atomic models and radioactivity

How we prepare our lesson notes
Each note covers one topic for one class and one term, and the notes follow teaching order. Every note has behavioural objectives, the lesson content in short sections, evaluation questions and an assignment drawn from the same note.
Notes are edited for accuracy, plain language and the right level for the class before they are published.
Every note is free to read online. A PDF or Word copy of one subject costs ₦1,000 for one term, or ₦2,000 for all three terms. If you find a mistake, tell us and we will correct it.
