Topic: Role Play

Behavioural Objectives:

By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:

  1. Explain the meaning of role playing.
  2. Describe who an actor/actress is.
  3. Role plays a leader leading a school assembly, church, or mosque service.
  4. Mention 5 popular actors.

Set Induction:

  • Start with a short video clip or a live demonstration of a role play scenario to capture pupils’ interest.

Entry Behaviour:

  • Pupils should have basic knowledge of storytelling and acting.

Learning Materials:

  • Video clip or live demonstration, props for role play (e.g., microphone, podium), pictures of popular actors.

Instructional Materials:

  • Visual aids, whiteboard, and markers.

  • Discuss the concept of acting and dramatization, connecting it to familiar stories or performances they have seen.

Content:

  1. Meaning of Role Playing: Role playing involves acting out a specific role or scenario to understand different perspectives and practice behavior. 
  2. Who is an Actor/Actress?: An actor or actress is a person who performs on stage or in front of a camera, playing a role in a drama, film, or performance. 
  3. Role Play Scenarios: • Leader Leading a School Assembly: Practice speaking and presenting as if leading a school assembly. • Leader Leading a Church Service: Role play guiding a church service with prayers and announcements. • Leader Leading a Mosque Service: Act out leading a mosque service, including reading from the Quran and making announcements. 
  4. Popular Actors: Discuss and mention 5 well-known actors, such as Genevieve Nnaji, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, Jim Iyke, and Funke Akindele.
