Topic: Introduction to Singing
Duration: 35 minutes

Learning Objectives

By the end of this lesson, pupils will be able to sing simple songs with proper posture and breathing.

Introduction

Singing is making beautiful sounds with our voices. We all have voices that can make music. When we sing together, we create lovely music that makes people happy. Today we will learn how to use our voices to sing properly.

Main Content

Our Voice

Our voice is a special instrument inside our body. When air comes from our lungs through our throat, it makes sounds. We can make high sounds and low sounds. We can make loud sounds and soft sounds. Our mouth, tongue, and lips help us make different sounds when we sing.

How to Stand and Breathe for Singing

When we sing, we should stand up straight like a tall tree. Our feet should be flat on the ground. We should breathe in deeply through our nose and let the air fill our stomach, not just our chest. This helps us sing better and longer.

Starting to Sing

Before we sing songs, we warm up our voices just like we warm up our bodies before sports. We can hum quietly, make “la la la” sounds, or sing simple scales. This makes our voice ready for singing.

Class Exercises

Exercise 1: Practice good singing posture. Stand straight, feet apart, and take three deep breaths. Feel your stomach rise when you breathe in.

Exercise 2: Voice warm-up. Hum your favorite tune for one minute. Then sing “do re mi fa sol” going up and down slowly.

Exercise 3: Echo singing. The teacher will sing a short phrase, and pupils will sing it back exactly the same way. Start with “la la la” on different notes.

Exercise 4: Learn and sing a simple song together. Practice “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” with proper breathing and clear words.

Exercise 5: Singing in groups. Half the class sings the first line, the other half sings the second line of “Mary Had a Little Lamb.”

Evaluation

Pupils will demonstrate correct singing posture and sing a familiar nursery rhyme. The teacher will observe if pupils are breathing properly and singing with clear voices.

Assignment

Practice singing one nursery rhyme at home every day. Remember to stand straight and breathe deeply. Be ready to perform it in the next class.
