What is Choral Singing?

Choral singing is when a group of people sing together in harmony. The word “choir” comes from the Greek word meaning “to dance” because early choirs would dance while singing.
Classification of Choral Singing:
- By Age:
- Children’s choir
- Youth choir
- Adult choir
- Mixed age choir
- By Voice Parts:
- Soprano – Highest female voice
- Alto – Lower female voice
- Tenor – Higher male voice
- Bass – Lowest male voice
- By Size:
- Small choir (8-20 singers)
- Medium choir (20-60 singers)
- Large choir (60+ singers)
Types of Singing:
- Solo Singing – One person sings alone
- Duet – Two people sing together
- Trio – Three people sing together
- Quartet – Four people sing together
- Choral/Group Singing – Many people sing together
- Unison Singing – Everyone sings the same melody
- Harmony Singing – Different voice parts sing different notes
