Introduction

Flowers are beautiful parts of plants that come in many shapes, sizes, and colors. They make our environment colorful and smell nice. Today we will learn about different types of flowers that we can see around us.

What Are Flowers?

Flowers are the pretty, colorful parts of plants. They help plants make new plants by producing seeds. Some flowers are big, and some are small. Some smell sweet, while others have no smell at all. Flowers can be red, yellow, blue, pink, white, or purple.

Common Types of Flowers

There are many types of flowers around us. 

• Roses are popular flowers that smell very nice and have thorns on their stems. 

• Sunflowers are big, yellow flowers that always face the sun. 

• Hibiscus flowers are large and can be red, pink, or yellow. 

• Bougainvillea flowers are small but grow in bunches and can be purple, pink, or white. 

• Marigolds are small, bright orange or yellow flowers that are easy to grow.

Where We Find Flowers

We can find flowers in many places. Some grow in gardens at home or school. Others grow wild in bushes and along roadsides. Some people grow flowers in pots, while others plant them directly in the ground. Flowers need water, sunlight, and good soil to grow well.

Class Exercises

Exercise 1: Flower identification walk. Go around the school compound and identify any flowers you can see. Draw or write down the names of three flowers you find.

Exercise 2: Describe a flower. Choose one flower and tell the class what color it is, how big it is, and if it has a smell. Let others guess what flower you are describing.

Exercise 3: Flower sorting activity. Look at pictures of different flowers and group them by color. Put all red flowers together, all yellow flowers together, and so on.

Exercise 4: Memory game. The teacher will show pictures of five different flowers for two minutes. Close your eyes and try to remember and name all five flowers.

Exercise 5: Draw and color your favorite flower. Make it as colorful and beautiful as possible. Write the name of the flower under your drawing.

Evaluation

Pupils will name and identify at least three different types of flowers. They will also describe one flower by telling its color, size, and any special features they notice.

Assignment

Find two different flowers at home or in your neighborhood. Draw them in your notebook and write their names. Ask an adult to help you identify them if you do not know their names. Bring your drawings to show the class next time.
