Lesson Content

Things That Can Hinder (Stop) Our Prayers

  1. Sin in Our Hearts
    1. When we do wrong things and don’t say sorry
    2. When we are mean to others
    3. When we disobey our parents
  2. Not Forgiving Others
    1. When someone hurts us and we stay angry
    2. When we don’t forgive our friends
    3. God wants us to forgive like He forgives us
  3. Selfish Prayers
    1. Only praying for ourselves
    2. Asking for things that are not good for us
    3. Not caring about other people’s needs
  4. Not Having Faith
    1. Not believing that God can help
    2. Doubting that God loves us
    3. Giving up too quickly

How to Make Our Prayers Powerful

  • Say sorry for wrong things we’ve done
  • Forgive people who hurt us
  • Pray for others, not just ourselves
  • Believe that God loves us and can help
  • Be patient and keep praying

Sharing Our Prayer Experiences Let children share:

  • What they have prayed for
  • How God answered their prayers
  • Times when they felt God helped them

Examples of How God Answers Prayers

  • Sometimes God says “Yes” right away
  • Sometimes God says “Wait” because the time isn’t right
  • Sometimes God says “No” because He has something better
  • God always hears our prayers, even when we can’t see the answer

Memory Verse

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and will forgive us.” – 1 John 1:9
