DEFINITION OF LOVE

Love is a strong feeling of care, concern, and affection for others. It means wanting the best for someone else and being willing to sacrifice for them.

Biblical Definition:

• 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 – “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud…”
• John 15:13 – “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends”
• 1 John 4:8 – “God is love”

MORAL RESPONSIBILITY OF SHOWING UNSELFISH LOVE

What is Unselfish Love? Love that expects nothing in return; caring for others without thinking about yourself first.

Our Moral Responsibilities:

1. Love God with all our heart (Matthew 22:37) 
   1. Obey His commandments
   2. Worship Him sincerely
   3. Put Him first in everything
2. Love our neighbors as ourselves (Matthew 22:39) 
   1. Treat others as we want to be treated
   2. Help those in need
   3. Be kind to everyone
3. Love our enemies (Matthew 5:44) 
   1. Pray for those who hurt us
   2. Forgive those who wrong us
   3. Don’t seek revenge
4. Love our family members 
   1. Honor parents
   2. Care for siblings
   3. Support relatives
5. Love strangers and foreigners 
   1. Show hospitality
   2. Don’t discriminate
   3. Help those different from us

HOW TO SHOW UNSELFISH LOVE

Practical Ways:

1. Through Kindness 
   1. Speak politely to everyone
   2. Smile and be friendly
   3. Help without being asked
2. Through Sharing 
   1. Share your food and belongings
   2. Give to those who have less
   3. Don’t be stingy
3. Through Forgiveness 
   1. Forgive those who offend you
   2. Don’t hold grudges
   3. Let go of anger
4. Through Service 
   1. Help with housework
   2. Assist elderly people
   3. Volunteer in church
5. Through Sacrifice 
   1. Give up your comfort for others
   2. Spend time with lonely people
   3. Use your resources to help
6. Through Encouragement 
   1. Say kind words
   2. Appreciate others
   3. Build people up, don’t tear down
7. Through Prayer 
   1. Pray for others daily
   2. Intercede for the sick
   3. Ask God to bless your enemies
8. Through Patience 
   1. Wait calmly for others
   2. Don’t get angry quickly
   3. Understand people’s weaknesses
9. Through Honesty 
   1. Tell the truth always
   2. Keep your promises
   3. Be trustworthy
10. Through Respect 
    1. Honor everyone regardless of status
    2. Listen when others speak
    3. Value others’ opinions

Jesus’ Example of Unselfish Love:

• He died on the cross for our sins
• He healed the sick
• He fed the hungry
• He taught everyone freely
• He forgave His enemies
