Learning Objectives

- Explain why Jesus helped the people in the events
- Discuss importance of obedience as illustrated in the great catch of fishes
- Discuss the turning of water into wine
Introduction
Jesus did many amazing miracles that showed He had special power from God. Today we will learn about four wonderful miracles Jesus performed.
Lesson Content
- Jesus Calms the Storm (Mark 4:35-41)
What Happened:
- Jesus and His disciples were in a boat
- A big storm came with strong winds and waves
- The disciples were very scared
- Jesus was sleeping peacefully
- The disciples woke Jesus up saying, “Save us!”
- Jesus told the wind and waves: “Be quiet! Be still!”
- Immediately, everything became calm
Why Jesus Helped: Jesus cared about His friends and didn’t want them to be afraid.
- Feeding of Five Thousand People (Matthew 14:13-21)
What Happened:
- Many people followed Jesus to hear Him teach
- It was getting late and people were hungry
- A little boy had 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish
- Jesus took the small lunch and prayed
- He gave the food to His disciples to share
- Everyone ate and was satisfied
- There were 12 baskets of leftover food
Why Jesus Helped: Jesus saw that people were hungry and He cared about their needs.
- The Great Catch of Fishes (Luke 5:1-11)
What Happened:
- Peter and other fishermen had worked all night
- They caught no fish and were very tired
- Jesus asked to use Peter’s boat to teach people
- After teaching, Jesus told Peter: “Go to deep water and put down your nets”
- Peter said: “We’ve tried all night, but we’ll obey you”
- They caught so many fish that their nets almost broke
- They filled two boats with fish
Why Jesus Helped: Jesus wanted to show His power and teach about obedience. Lesson About Obedience: Even when Peter didn’t think it would work, he obeyed Jesus and was blessed.
- Jesus Turns Water into Wine (John 2:1-11)
What Happened:
- Jesus was at a wedding party with His mother Mary
- The party ran out of wine (grape juice)
- Mary told Jesus about the problem
- Jesus told servants to fill 6 big jars with water
- Jesus told them to take some to the party leader
- When the leader tasted it, the water had become the best wine
- This was Jesus’ first miracle
Why Jesus Helped: Jesus cared about the family’s embarrassment and wanted to help them have a good celebration.
Memory Verse
“What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!” – Matthew 8:27
