Topic: The Early Life Of Jesus

Learning Objectives

By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:

  1. Narrate the birth of Jesus
  2. Explain the message of the angel to Joseph
  3. Name the gifts presented to Jesus by the three wise men

Introduction

Today we will learn about when Jesus was born as a baby. This is a very special story that happened long ago in a town called Bethlehem.

Lesson Content

The Birth of Jesus (Luke 2:1-20)

Before Jesus Was Born:

  • Mary and Joseph had to travel to Bethlehem
  • They needed a place to stay
  • All the hotels were full
  • They had to stay in a stable where animals lived

When Jesus Was Born:

  • Jesus was born in the stable
  • Mary wrapped Him in soft cloths
  • She laid Him in a manger (animal’s food box)
  • This happened at night time

The Angels’ Announcement:

  • Angels appeared to shepherds in the fields
  • The angels said, “Good news! A Savior is born!”
  • The angels sang praises to God
  • The shepherds went to see baby Jesus

The Angel’s Message to Joseph (Matthew 1:18-25)

  • Joseph was worried when Mary was going to have a baby
  • An angel came to Joseph in a dream
  • The angel said: “Don’t be afraid, Joseph”
  • The angel said: “The baby is from God”
  • The angel said: “Name the baby Jesus”
  • The angel said: “He will save people from their sins”
  • Joseph obeyed the angel’s message

The Three Wise Men and Their Gifts (Matthew 2:1-12)

Who Were the Wise Men:

  • They were smart men from far away
  • They studied the stars
  • They saw a special star in the sky
  • The star told them a king was born

The Gifts They Brought:

  1. Gold – A precious metal for a king
  2. Frankincense – Sweet smelling incense for worship
  3. Myrrh – Special oil used for healing

Why These Gifts Were Special:

  • Gold showed Jesus was a king
  • Frankincense showed Jesus was holy
  • Myrrh showed Jesus would suffer for us

Memory Verse

“She gave birth to her first son and laid him in a manger.” – Luke 2:7

Act out the nativity story with simple costumes and props.
