Lesson Content

What is Temptation?

  • Temptation is when someone tries to make us do wrong things
  • It’s like when someone tells us to disobey our parents
  • It’s when we want to do something we know is wrong
  • Everyone faces temptations, even Jesus

The Temptation of Jesus (Matthew 4:1-11)

Where Jesus Was Tempted:

  • In the wilderness (desert)
  • Jesus fasted (didn’t eat) for 40 days and nights
  • He was very hungry
  • Satan (the devil) came to tempt Him

The Three Temptations:

  1. Turn Stones to Bread
    1. Satan said: “Make these stones become bread”
    2. Jesus was very hungry
    3. Jesus said: “Man needs God’s word more than food”
  2. Jump from the Temple
    1. Satan took Jesus to the top of the temple
    2. Satan said: “Jump down, angels will catch you”
    3. Jesus said: “Don’t test God”
  3. Worship Satan for All Kingdoms
    1. Satan showed Jesus all the kingdoms of the world
    2. Satan said: “I’ll give you all this if you worship me”
    3. Jesus said: “Worship only God”

How Jesus Won:

  • Jesus used God’s word (the Bible) to fight temptation
  • Jesus stayed faithful to God
  • Angels came and helped Jesus after Satan left
