Learning Objectives
By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:
- Discuss more powers of Jesus (power over evil, diseases and death)
- Narrate the story of the paralyzed man whom Jesus healed
- Name people in the Bible who Jesus raised from the dead
- State the significance of Jesus’ healing, raising from the dead, power over sin and death
Introduction
Last week we learned about Jesus’ power over nature. Today we will learn about Jesus’ power over sickness, evil, and even death!
Lesson Content
Jesus’ Power Over Evil Spirits
- Evil spirits are bad spirits that make people do wrong things
- Jesus could tell evil spirits to leave people
- The evil spirits had to obey Jesus because He is God’s Son
- Jesus set people free from evil spirits
Jesus’ Power Over Diseases (Sickness)
- Jesus could heal any kind of sickness
- He healed blind people so they could see
- He healed deaf people so they could hear
- He healed people who couldn’t walk
The Story of the Paralyzed Man (Mark 2:1-12)
What Happened:
- A man couldn’t move his arms or legs (he was paralyzed)
- Four friends wanted to bring him to Jesus
- The house where Jesus was teaching was too crowded
- The friends made a hole in the roof
- They lowered their friend down through the roof to Jesus
- Jesus saw their faith and said to the paralyzed man:
- “Your sins are forgiven”
- “Get up, take your mat and walk”
- The man immediately got up and walked
- Everyone was amazed and praised God
Why This Story is Special:
- It shows Jesus’ power over sickness
- It shows Jesus can forgive sins
- It shows the importance of good friends who help us get to Jesus
- It shows that faith in Jesus brings healing
Jesus’ Power Over Death
People Jesus Raised from the Dead:
- Jairus’s Daughter (Mark 5:35-43)
- A 12-year-old girl who died
- Jesus said she was only sleeping
- He took her hand and said, “Little girl, get up!”
- She got up and walked around
- The Widow’s Son (Luke 7:11-17)
- A young man who died
- His mother was very sad
- Jesus touched the coffin and said, “Young man, get up!”
- The young man sat up and started talking
- Lazarus (John 11:1-44)
- Jesus’ friend who had been dead for 4 days
- Jesus prayed and called, “Lazarus, come out!”
- Lazarus came out of the tomb alive
The Significance of Jesus’ Power:
Power Over Sin:
- Jesus can forgive all our wrong doings
- He makes us clean in God’s eyes
- He helps us live good lives
Power Over Death:
- Jesus showed that death is not the end
- He promises eternal life to those who believe in Him
- He conquered death by His own resurrection
Why These Powers Matter:
- They show Jesus is truly God’s Son
- They give us hope that Jesus can help us with any problem
- They prove that Jesus loves us and cares for us
- They show us that nothing is too hard for Jesus
