Review Previous Learning
Let pupils recite verses 1-3 together:
- تَبَّتْ يَدَا أَبِي لَهَبٍ وَتَبَّ
- مَا أَغْنَىٰ عَنْهُ مَالُهُ وَمَا كَسَبَ
- سَيَصْلَىٰ نَارًا ذَاتَ لَهَبٍ
Main Content
The Final Two Verses
Verse 4: وَامْرَأَتُهُ حَمَّالَةَ الْحَطَبِ “Wa-imra’atuhu hammalata’l-hatab”
Verse 5: فِي جِيدِهَا حَبْلٌ مِّن مَّسَدٍ “Fi jidiha hablun min masad”
Simple Meanings of Verses 4-5
Verse 4: “And his wife, the carrier of firewood”
- This talks about Abu Lahab’s wife
- She used to help him hurt Muslims
- She would carry thorns and put them in Prophet Muhammad’s (ﷺ) path
Verse 5: “Around her neck is a rope of twisted palm fiber”
- This describes her punishment in the next life

- Both husband and wife will be punished for their bad actions
