The Sūrah in Arabic

إِنَّا أَعْطَيْنَاكَ الْكَوْثَرَ Innā a’ṭaynāka al-kawthar

فَصَلِّ لِرَبِّكَ وَانْحَرْ Fa-ṣalli li-rabbika wa-nḥar

إِنَّ شَانِئَكَ هُوَ الْأَبْتَرُ Inna shāni’aka huwa al-abtar

What It Means in English

Verse 1: “Indeed, We have given you abundance (Al-Kawthar).”

Verse 2: “So pray to your Lord and sacrifice.”

Verse 3: “Indeed, your enemy is the one cut off.”

The Simple Meaning

Al-Kawthar means “abundance” or “lots of good things.” It is:

• A special river in Paradise
• Many good things Allah gave to Prophet Muhammad
• Lots of followers and blessings

The Story: Some people were mean to Prophet Muhammad and said he had no sons. They thought this meant he wasn’t important.

But Allah told the Prophet that He had given him Al-Kawthar – so many good things! Allah said the mean people were the ones who would be forgotten, not the Prophet.

What Allah Wants:

• We should pray to Allah
• We should thank Allah for His gifts
• We should remember that Allah gives us many blessings

What We Learn:

• Allah gives good things to those who love Him
• We should always pray and thank Allah
• Mean people who hurt good people will not succeed
• Allah protects His special servants
