About Further Mathematics Lesson Notes
Further Mathematics is an extra mathematics subject for SS1 to SS3 students who want to go beyond the core course. It is usually taken by students who enjoy mathematics and plan to study science, engineering or similar courses.
The notes on this page begin with sets, indices, logarithms, surds, sequences and series in SS1. They go on to quadratic equations, polynomials, trigonometric functions, circles, probability, permutation, combination and binomial expansion in SS2. Differentiation and mechanics also appear in SS2. SS3 covers matrices, partial fractions, variance, correlation and regression, integration, conic sections, statics and games theory.
What students learn
By the end of SS3, a student who has worked through these notes should be able to:
- Apply the laws of indices and logarithms and simplify expressions with surds
- Solve linear inequalities and quadratic equations, including those using the sum and product of roots
- Find the nth term and sum of sequences and series
- Use properties of circles to find lengths of chords and perimeters of segments
- Solve problems on probability, permutation and combination, and expand binomial expressions
- Differentiate functions using the rules of differentiation and carry out basic integration
- Work with matrices and determinants and split expressions into partial fractions
- Calculate variance and interpret correlation and regression in a set of data
What each class covers
Every topic is a separate lesson note, listed here in teaching order. Open any topic, or the term, to read it.

How we prepare our lesson notes
Each note covers one topic for one class and one term, and the notes follow teaching order. Every note has behavioural objectives, the lesson content in short sections, evaluation questions and an assignment drawn from the same note.
Before publication, the notes are edited for accuracy, plain language and the right level for the class.
Every note is free to read online. A PDF or Word copy of one subject costs ₦1,000 for one term, or ₦2,000 for all three terms. If you find a mistake, tell us and we will correct it.
