Content Development
What is the Writing Process? The writing process is the steps we follow to create good writing. It helps us organize our thoughts and make our writing clear and interesting.
The 5 Steps of the Writing Process:
STEP 1: PRE-WRITING (Planning) This is where we get ready to write by thinking about what we want to say.
Pre-writing Activities:
- Brainstorming: Think of ideas
- Listing: Write down main points
- Drawing: Make pictures to help plan
- Talking: Discuss ideas with others
Example for “About Me” topic:
- My name
- My age
- My family
- What I like to do
- My favorite things
STEP 2: DRAFTING (First Writing) Write down your ideas in sentences. Don’t worry about perfect spelling or grammar yet.
Sample First Draft: “My name is Sarah. I am 7 years old. I have a mom and dad and one sister. I like to play with my friends. My favorite color is pink.”
STEP 3: REVISING (Making it Better) Look at what you wrote and make it more interesting. Add more details and better words.
Revised Version: “My name is Sarah and I am seven years old. I live with my loving parents and my little sister Emma. I enjoy playing games with my friends at school. My favorite color is bright pink because it reminds me of beautiful flowers.”
STEP 4: EDITING (Checking for Mistakes) Look for spelling, punctuation, and grammar mistakes.
Things to Check:
- Spelling of words
- Capital letters at the beginning
- Periods at the end
- Neat handwriting
STEP 5: PUBLISHING (Sharing) Share your final, clean copy with others.
Ways to Publish:
