Introduction

Good readers can understand new words, find the main points in what they read, and even create their own poems from stories.

Content Development

Sample Passage: “The Lost Kitten”

One sunny morning, Maya heard a soft crying sound coming from her garden. She looked around and found a tiny kitten hiding under the rose bush. The kitten was hungry, scared, and alone.

Maya gently picked up the kitten and gave it some warm milk. The kitten stopped crying and began to purr. Maya decided to help find the kitten’s owner.

She made colorful posters with the kitten’s picture and put them around the neighborhood. After three days, a little girl came to Maya’s house. “That’s my kitten Whiskers!” she cried happily. “Thank you for taking care of him!”

Maya felt happy knowing she had helped reunite Whiskers with his loving owner. Sometimes the best way to solve problems is by being kind and helpful.

New Words and Their Meanings:

1. Tiny – very small 

Example: The tiny ant crawled on the leaf.

1. Gently – in a soft, careful way 

Example: Handle the eggs gently.

1. Purr – the soft sound a happy cat makes 

Example: The cat began to purr when I petted it.

1. Neighborhood – the area where people live near each other 

Example: Our neighborhood has many friendly families.

1. Reunite – to bring together again 

Example: The lost child was reunited with her parents.

1. Owner – the person who owns something 

Example: The owner of the car painted it blue.

Problem and Solution:

• Problem: A lost kitten was hungry and scared
• Solution: Maya fed the kitten and helped find its owner

Summary of the Passage: Maya found a lost kitten in her garden. She fed it and made posters to find the owner. After three days, the owner came and got the kitten. Maya felt happy for helping.

Small Poem from the Passage:

“Little Whiskers Lost and Found”

A tiny kitten, lost and small, Was found by Maya in the fall. She gave him milk, she gave him care, And posters put up everywhere.

Soon the owner came around, Her precious Whiskers safe and sound. Maya smiled with joy so bright, Helping others feels so right!
