DETAILED LESSON CONTENT
PHONICS SONGS WITH ACTIONS
SONG 1: ALPHABET SOUND SONG A says /a/ like in apple (pretend to bite apple) B says /b/ like in ball (bounce imaginary ball) C says /c/ like in cat (meow and scratch like cat) D says /d/ like in dog (bark and pant like dog) E says /e/ like in egg (crack imaginary egg) F says /f/ like in fish (swim like fish)
SONG 2: VOWEL SOUNDS SONG A, E, I, O, U (clap for each vowel) These are vowels just for you! (point to children) A says /a/ in cat and hat (touch head for hat) E says /e/ in bed and red (point to red objects) I says /i/ in pig and big (stretch arms wide for big) O says /o/ in dog and log (pretend to be dog) U says /u/ in cup and up (hold cup, point up)
SONG 3: BEGINNING SOUNDS SONG What sound does BALL begin with? B-B-B, that’s right! (bounce ball motion) What sound does CAT begin with? C-C-C, very good! (cat claws motion) What sound does DOG begin with? D-D-D, well done! (panting motion)
CONSONANT SOUNDS WITH SONGS
B SOUND SONG: B is for ball, bounce, bounce, bounce (bounce motion) B is for bird that flies around (flap arms) B is for book we read each day (open book motion) B says /b/ in every way!
B Words to Practice:
- ball, bat, bed, big, bird, book, box, bus, baby, bag
C SOUND SONG: C is for cat that says meow (meow sound) C is for car, beep beep right now (driving motion) C is for cup we drink from (drinking motion) C says /c/, let’s sing this song!

- cat, car, cup, can, cap, cake, cow, cut, come, coat
D SOUND SONG: D is for dog, woof woof woof (barking) D is for door, knock knock knock (knocking motion) D is for duck that swims in water (swimming motion) D says /d/, let’s sing it louder!

RHYMING SOUND SONGS
-AT FAMILY SONG: Cat, bat, hat, mat (clap for each word) Rat, sat, pat, fat (stomp for each word) All these words end with -AT (jump) Isn’t phonics where it’s at! (cheer)
-AN FAMILY SONG: Can, man, fan, pan (clap rhythm) Ran, tan, ban, van (march in place) All these words end with -AN Sing along if you can!
-OG FAMILY SONG: Dog, log, frog, hog (hop for each) Jog, cog, fog, bog (run in place) All these words end with -OG Let’s dance and jump like a frog!
SOUND IDENTIFICATION GAMES
Musical Sounds Game:
- Play different songs with various beginning sounds
- Children listen and identify the beginning sound of key words
- When they hear their assigned sound, they do an action:
- /b/ sound = bounce like a ball
- /c/ sound = crawl like a cat
- /d/ sound = dance like they’re happy
Sound Hunt Song: Listen, listen, what do you hear? A special sound is very near! Is it /b/ or is it /c/? Listen carefully and tell me!
CREATING SOUND SONGS

MUSICAL SOUND PATTERNS
Pattern 1: Loud and Soft
- Say sounds loudly: /B/ /B/ /B/
- Say sounds softly: /b/ /b/ /b/
- Alternate: /B/ /b/ /B/ /b/
Pattern 2: Fast and Slow
- Say sounds quickly: /c-c-c-c/
- Say sounds slowly: /c/ … /c/ … /c/
- Mix speeds in songs
Pattern 3: High and Low Voice
- High voice for small animals: /i/ (mouse)
- Low voice for big animals: /o/ (cow)
- Medium voice for medium animals: /a/ (cat)
