About Suratul-Al-Imran:

 

  • Chapter 3 of the Holy Quran
  • Name means “The Family of Imran”
  • Contains 200 verses
  • Revealed in Madinah (Madani Surah)
  • Named after the family of Prophet Isa (Jesus)

Arabic Text and Translation:

Verse 103: وَاعْتَصِمُوا بِحَبْلِ اللَّهِ جَمِيعًا وَلَا تَفَرَّقُوا ۚ وَاذْكُرُوا نِعْمَتَ اللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ إِذْ كُنتُمْ أَعْدَاءً فَأَلَّفَ بَيْنَ قُلُوبِكُمْ فَأَصْبَحْتُم بِنِعْمَتِهِ إِخْوَانًا

Transliteration: “Wa’tasimū bi-hablillāhi jamī’an wa lā tafarraqū wa’dhkurū ni’matallāhi ‘alaykum idh kuntum a’dā’an fa-allafa bayna qulūbikum fa-asbah-tum bi-ni’matihī ikhwānan”

Translation: “And hold fast, all of you together, to the rope of Allah, and do not separate. And remember Allah’s favor upon you when you were enemies, then He united your hearts, so you became brothers by His favor.”

Verse 104: وَكُنتُمْ عَلَىٰ شَفَا حُفْرَةٍ مِّنَ النَّارِ فَأَنقَذَكُم مِّنْهَا ۗ كَذَٰلِكَ يُبَيِّنُ اللَّهُ لَكُمْ آيَاتِهِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَهْتَدُونَ

Transliteration: “Wa kuntum ‘alā shafā hufratin mina’n-nāri fa-anqadhakum minhā kadhālika yubayyinullāhu lakum āyātihī la’allakum tahtadūn”

Translation: “You were on the edge of a pit of Fire, then He saved you from it. Thus Allah makes clear to you His signs, that you may be guided.”

Verse 105: وَلْتَكُن مِّنكُمْ أُمَّةٌ يَدْعُونَ إِلَى الْخَيْرِ وَيَأْمُرُونَ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ وَيَنْهَوْنَ عَنِ الْمُنكَرِ ۚ وَأُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْمُفْلِحُونَ

Transliteration: “Wa’l-takun minkum ummatun yad’ūna ilā’l-khayri wa ya’murūna bi’l-ma’rūfi wa yanhawna ‘ani’l-munkari wa ulā’ika humu’l-muflihūn”

Translation: “And let there be among you a group that calls to goodness, enjoins what is right, and forbids what is wrong. These are the successful ones.”

The Rope of Allah:

  • Refers to the Quran and Islamic teachings
  • Hold fast to Allah’s guidance together

Saved from the Fire:

  • Enjoin what is right (Ma’ruf)
  • Forbid what is wrong (Munkar)
  • This leads to success

  • Muslims have responsibility to guide others
  • Promote good deeds in society
  • Speak against wrongdoing
  • Success comes from fulfilling this duty

Practical Applications:

For Students:

  • Study together and help each other
  • Don’t create groups based on tribe or class
  • Encourage classmates to do good
  • Discourage bad behavior among friends

For Families:

  • Family members should stay united
  • Help each other in good deeds
  • Correct family members when they do wrong
  • Remember Allah’s blessings on the family

For Community:

  • Muslims should work together for community good
  • Promote education, cleanliness, honesty
  • Discourage lying, stealing, fighting
  • Create programs to help the needy

Historical Context:

These verses were revealed when:

  • Different tribes in Madinah were fighting
  • Muslims needed to unite against common enemies
  • Community leadership was being established
  • Clear guidance was needed for social harmony

  1. Memorize verses 103-105 of Suratul-Al-Imran with proper pronunciation
  2. Write 3 ways you can promote unity in your class
  3. Give 2 examples each of Ma’ruf (good) and Munkar (wrong) that you see around you
