The Sūrah in Arabic
فَوَيْلٌ لِّلْمُصَلِّينَ Fa-waylun lil-muṣallīn
الَّذِينَ هُمْ عَن صَلَاتِهِمْ سَاهُونَ Alladhīna hum ‘an ṣalātihim sāhūn
الَّذِينَ هُمْ يُرَاؤُونَ Alladhīna hum yurā’ūn
وَيَمْنَعُونَ الْمَاعُونَ Wa yamna’ūnal-mā’ūn
What It Means in English
Verse 4: “So woe to those who pray”
Verse 5: “Who are careless about their prayers”
Verse 6: “Who do things only to be seen by people”
Verse 7: “And refuse to give small helpful things”
Simple Meaning
Who is Allah Warning? Allah is warning people who:
- Pray but don’t care – They pray but their hearts are not in it
- Are careless about prayer – They forget prayer times or pray badly
- Show off – They do good things only so people will praise them
- Don’t help with small things – They won’t lend simple things like a cup or spoon
What is “Mā’ūn” (ماعون)?
- Small, everyday helpful things
- Like: a cup, spoon, bucket, pen, book
- Things people borrow from neighbors
- Simple acts of kindness
The Big Lesson: It’s not enough to just pray. We must:
- Pray sincerely with our hearts
- Be on time for prayers
- Help others without showing off
- Share small things willingly
Real vs. Fake Worship
Real Worshippers:
- Pray with their hearts
- Are never late for prayer
- Help others quietly
- Share things happily
Fake Worshippers:
- Pray only for people to see
- Are careless about prayer times
- Only help when others are watching
- Are stingy with small things
Allah’s Message: True faith shows in both prayer and kindness to others.
