The Sūrah in Arabic

فَوَيْلٌ لِّلْمُصَلِّينَ Fa-waylun lil-muṣallīn

الَّذِينَ هُمْ عَن صَلَاتِهِمْ سَاهُونَ Alladhīna hum ‘an ṣalātihim sāhūn

الَّذِينَ هُمْ يُرَاؤُونَ Alladhīna hum yurā’ūn

وَيَمْنَعُونَ الْمَاعُونَ Wa yamna’ūnal-mā’ūn

What It Means in English

Verse 4: “So woe to those who pray”

Verse 5: “Who are careless about their prayers”

Verse 6: “Who do things only to be seen by people”

Verse 7: “And refuse to give small helpful things”

Simple Meaning

Who is Allah Warning? Allah is warning people who:

  1. Pray but don’t care – They pray but their hearts are not in it
  2. Are careless about prayer – They forget prayer times or pray badly
  3. Show off – They do good things only so people will praise them
  4. Don’t help with small things – They won’t lend simple things like a cup or spoon

What is “Mā’ūn” (ماعون)?

  • Small, everyday helpful things
  • Like: a cup, spoon, bucket, pen, book
  • Things people borrow from neighbors
  • Simple acts of kindness

The Big Lesson: It’s not enough to just pray. We must:

  • Pray sincerely with our hearts
  • Be on time for prayers
  • Help others without showing off
  • Share small things willingly

Real vs. Fake Worship

Real Worshippers:

  • Pray with their hearts
  • Are never late for prayer
  • Help others quietly
  • Share things happily

Fake Worshippers:

  • Pray only for people to see
  • Are careless about prayer times
  • Only help when others are watching
  • Are stingy with small things

Allah’s Message: True faith shows in both prayer and kindness to others.
