Conditions for Growing Crops

1. Good Soil – Soil must be rich in nutrients
2. Water – Adequate water for plant growth
3. Sunlight – Plants need sunlight for photosynthesis
4. Air – Plants need carbon dioxide and oxygen
5. Suitable Temperature – Not too hot or too cold
6. Space – Enough room for roots to grow

What are Fertilizers? Fertilizers are substances added to soil to provide nutrients that help plants grow better and produce more crops.

Importance of Fertilizers

1. Supply essential nutrients to plants
2. Improve soil fertility
3. Increase crop yield (more harvest)
4. Make plants healthy and strong
5. Replace nutrients removed by previous crops
6. Help crops resist diseases

Components of Fertilizers (NPK)

1. Nitrogen (N) – Helps plants grow green leaves
2. Phosphorus (P) – Helps roots develop and flowers form
3. Potassium (K) – Makes plants strong and healthy

What is Compost? Compost is decayed organic matter (dead plants, food waste, animal waste) used to improve soil fertility naturally.

Difference Between Compost and Fertilizer

• Compost: Natural, made from organic waste, slow-acting
• Fertilizer: Can be natural or synthetic, fast-acting, concentrated nutrients
