Content
What is Long Jump? Long jump is an athletic field event where athletes try to jump as far as possible from a take-off point.
Jumping Activities
- Jump and Reach – Jumping to touch high objects
- Jump and Touch – Touching specific targets while jumping
- Jumping on the Spot – Jumping without moving forward

- Standing Long Jump – Jumping forward from a standing position
Basic Phases of Long Jump

- Approach Run – Running to gain speed (15-20 meters)
- Take-off – Jumping from the take-off board with one foot
- Flight – Movement through the air
- Landing – Landing in the sand pit with both feet
- Recovery – Moving forward after landing
Rules of Long Jump
- Must take off from behind the board
- Landing must be in the sand pit
- Best of three attempts counts
- Measured from take-off line to nearest landing mark
Safety Measures
- Warm up properly before jumping
- Land on both feet in sand
- Keep sand pit clean and raked
- Wear appropriate shoes
- Follow teacher’s instructions
