What is Energy?

Energy is the power that makes things work. Energy helps us do many things every day.

Energy is what makes:

• Our body move and play
• Cars move on the road
• Lights shine bright
• Food cook on the stove

Where Do We Get Energy?

Our Body Gets Energy From:

• Food – rice, bread, fruits

• Water – to drink

• Rest – sleeping at night

Machines Get Energy From:

• Electricity – for lights and fans
• Petrol – for cars
• Batteries – for toys and torches

Uses of Energy

At Home:

• Cooking our food
• Lighting our rooms
• Watching television
• Playing with toys

At School:

• Lights in the classroom
• Fans to keep us cool
• Water pumps
• School bus moving

Our Body Uses Energy To:

• Run and play
• Think and learn
• Grow bigger and stronger
• Keep our heart beating
