Methods of Preserving Farm Produce:
- Sun Drying

- Spreading produce under the sun to remove moisture
- Examples: Drying tomatoes, peppers, okra
- Advantages: Cheap, easy, no special equipment needed
- Smoking

- Using smoke from burning wood to preserve food
- Examples: Smoking fish, meat
- Advantages: Adds flavor, kills germs
- Salting

- Adding salt to food to preserve it
- Examples: Salting fish, meat
- Advantages: Salt kills bacteria, cheap method
- Frying

- Cooking food in hot oil to preserve it
- Examples: Fried plantain chips, fried fish
- Advantages: Tastes good, lasts longer
- Refrigeration

- Keeping food cold to preserve it
- Examples: Storing fruits, vegetables in refrigerator
- Advantages: Keeps food very fresh, maintains nutrients
Practical Activity: Students will practice sun drying tomato slices and observe the process.
