What is length?

Length is how long or short something is. We measure length to know the size of objects.

Tools for Measuring Length

• Ruler – for measuring books, pencils

Measuring tape – for measuring rooms, height

• Metre rule – for measuring longer things

Units of Length

• Centimetre (cm) – for small things
• Metre (m) – for bigger things
• Kilometre (km) – for very long distances

How to Measure

1. Place ruler at the start of the object
2. Read the number where the object ends
3. Write the measurement with the unit
