BASIC SCIENCE: MIRROR – IMAGE FORMATION

Properties of Light

Light has special qualities:

  • Light travels in straight lines

  • Light can bounce back when it hits something

  • Light helps us see everything around us
  • Light moves very fast

What are Plane Mirrors?

A plane mirror is a flat, smooth glass that shows your image. Examples:

  • Bathroom mirror

  • Car side mirrors

  • Mirror in your mother’s handbag

Reflection of Light

When light hits a mirror, it bounces back to our eyes. This is called reflection. The image we see in the mirror looks exactly like us but appears to be behind the mirror.

Exercise 1:

  1. Look in a mirror and wave your right hand. Which hand waves back? _______
