Child responsibility to parents and relations means the duties children owe their parents and family members. These duties include respect, obedience, love, practical help, care in illness and old age, financial support when grown up, and prayer. Fulfilling them builds strong families and a good society.

Different religions, cultures, and traditions all teach children to respect, love, and care for their parents and relatives. This lesson explains these responsibilities, why they are important, and how children can fulfil them in daily life.

Why are parents important in our lives?

The role of parents

Parents play a very special role in our lives:

  • They bring us into this world
  • They provide food, shelter, clothing, and protection
  • They take care of us when we are sick
  • They educate us and teach us right from wrong
  • They make many sacrifices for our happiness and well-being
  • They love us unconditionally even when we make mistakes
  • They guide us to become good people

Sacrifices parents make

Parents make many sacrifices for their children:

  • Mother carries the child for nine months during pregnancy
  • Parents lose sleep to care for babies and sick children
  • They work hard to earn money for the family
  • They put their children’s needs before their own
  • They worry about their children’s safety and future
  • They spend their savings on children’s education
  • They give up personal time and comfort for their children
