Why We Have Duties to Others

We Are All Connected:

• We live in the same community
• We need each other’s help
• What we do affects other people
• Allah wants us to care for each other

What Islam Teaches:

• “None of you truly believes until you love for others what you love for yourself” (Hadith)
• We should help those in need
• We should be kind to everyone
• We should treat others how we want to be treated

Duties to Friends and Classmates

Being a Good Friend:

• Share your toys and snacks
• Help friends with their work when they ask
• Be honest – don’t lie to friends
• Keep secrets when friends trust you
• Forgive when friends make mistakes

In School:

• Include everyone in games – don’t leave anyone out
• Help new students feel welcome
• Stand up for classmates when others are mean to them
• Be fair in games and group work
• Congratulate others when they do well

What NOT to Do:

• Don’t bully or tease others
• Don’t gossip or spread rumors
• Don’t take things that don’t belong to you
• Don’t exclude others from your group
• Don’t laugh at others’ mistakes

Duties to Neighbors

Who Are Our Neighbors?

• People who live near our house
• Families in our neighborhood
• People we see regularly in our area

How to Be a Good Neighbor:

• Greet them politely when you see them
• Keep noise down so you don’t disturb them
• Help carry heavy things if you can
• Share food when your family cooks something special
• Look out for their safety

What Islam Says About Neighbors:

• Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said: “He is not a believer who sleeps with a full stomach while his neighbor goes hungry”
• We should be kind to neighbors even if they’re different from us
• Good neighbors make the whole community better

Duties to Those Who Need Help

Who Needs Our Help?

• Poor people who don’t have enough food or clothes
• Elderly people who can’t do things easily
• Sick people who need care and comfort
• Disabled people who face special challenges
• Orphans who don’t have parents

How We Can Help:

• Give charity – share money or things you don’t need
• Volunteer to help at community centers
• Visit sick people to cheer them up
• Be patient with elderly or disabled people
• Include everyone in activities

Small Acts of Kindness:

• Hold doors open for people
• Help someone pick up dropped items
• Give your seat to elderly or pregnant people
• Smile and be friendly to everyone
• Say kind words to people who are sad

Duties to the Environment

Taking Care of Allah’s Creation:

• Don’t litter – put trash in bins
• Don’t waste water or food
• Be kind to animals
• Plant trees and flowers when you can
• Keep public places clean

Why This Matters:

• Allah made us caretakers of the Earth
• Clean environment keeps everyone healthy
• Animals are also Allah’s creation
• Future generations need a clean world

General Duties to All People

Basic Respect:

• Treat everyone with kindness, regardless of their color, religion, or background
• Use good manners – say “please,” “thank you,” and “excuse me”
• Listen when others are speaking
• Don’t judge people by how they look

Islamic Values:

• Help when you can
• Forgive when others make mistakes
• Be honest in all your dealings
• Keep promises you make to others
• Show mercy to those who are weaker
