What is Salätul-Jum’ah?

Salätul-Jum’ah means “Friday Prayer”

Why is it Special?

  • It happens only once a week on Friday
  • All Muslim men must attend if they can
  • It brings the community together
  • It’s like a weekly meeting with Allah and other Muslims

What Makes it Different?

  • It has a sermon (Khutbah) before the prayer
  • It replaces Zuhr prayer on Friday
  • Many people pray together in the mosque
  • It’s shorter than regular prayers (only 2 rak’ahs)

 

Why Friday is Special

Friday is Called “Yawm al-Jum’ah”:

  • Jum’ah means “gathering” or “coming together”
  • It’s the weekly holy day for Muslims
  • Christians have Sunday, Jews have Saturday, Muslims have Friday

What Allah Says About Friday:

  • Allah chose Friday as special for Muslims
  • It’s mentioned in the Qur’ān (Sūrat al-Jum’ah)
  • Allah rewards those who attend Friday prayer
  • It’s a day of blessing and gathering

How Friday Prayer Works

Before the Prayer:

  • The Imam gives a speech called Khutbah
  • He talks about Islamic teachings
  • He reminds people about good behavior
  • Everyone listens quietly

The Prayer:

  • After the Khutbah, everyone prays together
  • It’s only 2 rak’ahs (not 4 like Zuhr)
  • The Imam leads and everyone follows
  • It takes about 15-20 minutes total

Who Must Attend:

  • Adult Muslim men who are able
  • Women and children can come but don’t have to
  • Sick people or travelers are excused

 

What to Do on Friday

Getting Ready for Jum’ah:

  • Take a bath (ghusl) and clean yourself well
  • Wear your best clean clothes
  • Use nice perfume if you have it
  • Cut your nails and brush your teeth
  • Arrive early at the mosque

During Jum’ah:

  • Listen carefully to the Khutbah
  • Don’t talk during the speech
  • Pray with full attention
  • Make du’a (special prayers) for yourself and family

After Jum’ah:

  • Say “Jum’ah Mubarak” to other Muslims
  • Spend time with family and friends
  • Do good deeds throughout the day
  • Read Qur’ān or do extra prayers

 

Special Things About Friday

Good Things to Do on Friday:

  • Read Sūrat al-Kahf (Chapter 18)
  • Send blessings on Prophet Muhammad (SAW)
  • Make extra du’a – Allah listens especially on Friday
  • Be extra kind to family and neighbors

Why Allah Made Friday Special:

  • To bring Muslims together weekly
  • To remind us about Islamic teachings
  • To strengthen our community
  • To give us a blessed day for worship
