Behavioural Objectives:

By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:

1. State the name of the man God made a special promise to.
2. Narrate the story of the birth of Isaac as a fulfillment of God’s promise.
3. List at least three promises God made to Abraham.
4. Explain why it is important to trust God’s promises using biblical and classroom examples.

Set Induction (Introduction):

Teacher shares this short story to build interest:

“Imagine someone promises you a beautiful gift on your birthday, but it doesn’t come immediately. You wait and wait – maybe for days or months. But one day, when you least expect it, the gift arrives! That’s how God’s promise to Abraham was fulfilled – it took time, but God kept His word.”

Lesson Development:

Step 1: Who Was Abraham?

About Abraham:

• Abraham was a faithful servant of God
• God chose him to be the father of many nations
• God made a covenant (a strong promise) with Abraham

Classroom Example: Teacher shows a poster of Abraham’s family and says, “Just like your father takes care of you, God took care of Abraham’s family too.”

Step 2: The Promises God Made to Abraham

God made several promises to Abraham:

1. He would be the father of many nations. 
2. His descendants would be as many as the stars in the sky and the sand on the seashore. 
3. He would have a son even though he and his wife Sarah were old. 
4. God would give his family a promised land (Canaan). 
5. Through him, all nations would be blessed.

Step 3: The Birth of Isaac – God Fulfills His Promise

The Fulfillment:

• Abraham was 100 years old when Isaac was born.
• Sarah, his wife, had laughed when God first made the promise because she thought it was impossible.
• But in Genesis 21:1–7, we see that God kept His promise – Isaac was born!

Classroom Discussion Question: “Why do you think Sarah laughed when she heard the promise?” (Expected response: She was old and didn’t believe it at first.)

Step 4: Lessons from the Story

• God always keeps His promises – even if it takes time.
• We should have faith and patience, just like Abraham.

Conclusion:

The teacher summarizes by emphasizing that just as God kept His promise to Abraham by giving him Isaac, God will also keep His promises to us today. We must trust Him and wait patiently.

2. Draw a picture showing Abraham, Sarah, and baby Isaac.
