The Story

Before Jesus went back to heaven, His disciples were very sad. They didn’t want Jesus to leave them.

Jesus saw that they were worried and afraid. So He made them a wonderful promise.

Jesus said, “Don’t let your hearts be troubled. I will not leave you alone. I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper to be with you forever.”

Jesus called this special Helper the “Comforter” or “Helper.” This Helper is the Holy Spirit.

What Jesus Promised About the Comforter:

1. He will be with us forever
   1. Unlike Jesus who had to go back to heaven
   2. The Holy Spirit stays with us always
2. He will teach us
   1. He helps us understand the Bible
   2. He reminds us of what Jesus taught
3. He will comfort us
   1. When we are sad, He makes us feel better
   2. When we are afraid, He gives us peace
4. He will guide us
   1. He helps us know right from wrong
   2. He shows us what God wants us to do
5. He will give us power
   1. Power to tell others about Jesus
   2. Power to do good things

The Best Part: Jesus said the Comforter would live inside believers. This means if you believe in Jesus, the Holy Spirit lives in your heart!

When Jesus went back to heaven, He kept His promise. On the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit came to earth just like Jesus said He would.

Now every Christian has the Holy Spirit living inside them as their Helper and Comforter.
