Topic: Suffering of Jesus Christ

What We Will Learn Today

  • Why Jesus had to suffer
  • What happened to Jesus before He died
  • How much Jesus loves us

The Story

Even though Jesus never did anything wrong, He had to suffer and die for us. This was God’s plan to save people from their sins.

What Happened to Jesus:

In the Garden:

  • Jesus prayed and was very sad
  • He knew He would suffer soon
  • He asked God for strength

When He Was Arrested:

  • Soldiers came to take Jesus away
  • His friends ran away and left Him
  • Jesus was taken to court

At the Court:

  • People told lies about Jesus
  • The judges said He must die
  • They chose a criminal instead of Jesus

Before the Cross:

  • Soldiers hit Jesus and made fun of Him
  • They put a crown of thorns on His head
  • They made Him carry a heavy wooden cross

On the Cross:

  • Jesus was nailed to the cross
  • He was in great pain for hours
  • He forgave the people who hurt Him
  • He died to pay for our sins

Why Jesus Suffered:

  • To take the punishment for our sins
  • To show how much God loves us
  • To make a way for us to go to heaven
  • To defeat sin and death

Even when Jesus was suffering, He still loved the people who were hurting Him. He even prayed, “Father, forgive them.”

Jesus could have stopped His suffering at any time because He is God’s Son. But He chose to suffer because He loves us so much.
