Learning Objectives

- Identify colours of things
- List the names of principal colours: red, blue, yellow, orange, green, and violet
- Describe objects with reference to their colour (red cap, white shirt, green shoes, etc.)
Introduction
Colours make our world beautiful and help us describe things better. Learning colour names helps us talk about what we see around us.
Content Development
What are Colours? Colours are what we see when light reflects off objects. Everything around us has colour.
The Principal Colours:

- RED
- The colour of blood, roses, and fire
- Examples: red apple, red car, red dress, red balloon
- Things that are red: tomatoes, strawberries, fire trucks, stop signs
- BLUE
- The colour of the sky and ocean
- Examples: blue sky, blue water, blue jeans, blue bird
- Things that are blue: blueberries, police uniforms, some flowers
- YELLOW
- The colour of the sun and bananas
- Examples: yellow sun, yellow banana, yellow taxi, yellow flower
- Things that are yellow: lemons, corn, school buses, sunflowers

- GREEN
- The colour of grass and leaves
- Examples: green grass, green leaves, green frog, green vegetables
- Things that are green: trees, lettuce, cucumbers, traffic lights (go)
- ORANGE
- The colour of oranges and carrots
- Examples: orange fruit, orange sunset, orange basketball
- Things that are orange: pumpkins, tigers, construction cones
- VIOLET (Purple)
- The colour of some flowers and grapes
- Examples: violet flowers, purple grapes, purple dress
- Things that are violet/purple: eggplant, lavender, some butterflies
Primary vs Secondary Colours:
- Primary colours: Red, Blue, Yellow (cannot be made by mixing other colours)
- Secondary colours: Orange (red + yellow), Green (blue + yellow), Violet (red + blue)
Describing Objects with Colours:
Clothing:
- Red cap (a hat that is red)
- White shirt (a shirt that is white)
- Blue pants (trousers that are blue)
- Green shoes (footwear that is green)
- Yellow dress (a dress that is yellow)
School Items:
- Red pencil, blue pen, green book, yellow ruler, orange crayon
Nature Items:
- Blue sky, white clouds, green trees, yellow sun, brown soil
Food Items:
- Red apple, yellow banana, green vegetables, orange carrots, purple grapes
Animals:
- Brown dog, black cat, white rabbit, green frog, red bird
