Introduction

Poetry is a special way of writing that uses rhythm, rhyme, and beautiful words to share feelings and ideas. Poems help us understand life in a fun and musical way.

Content Development

What is Poetry? Poetry is writing that uses special words, sounds, and patterns to create pictures in our minds and share feelings.

Features of Poetry:

  • Rhythm: The beat or music in the words
  • Rhyme: Words that sound alike at the end
  • Short lines: Not long like story sentences
  • Beautiful words: Words that paint pictures in our minds

Sample Poem: “The Helpful Hands”

Little hands, little hands,
What can you do?
I can help my mother,
I can help you too.

I can set the table,
I can sweep the floor,
I can feed the chickens,
I can do much more.

Little hands are useful,
Little hands are kind,
When we help each other,
Peace is what we find.

Reading Practice:
