Responsibilities of Individuals and Groups in Maintaining UDHR – SS1 Civic Education Lesson Note (First Term)

Some of the internationally recognised organizations that help maintain UDHR are:

1. Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights:
2. Amnesty International;
3. International Labour Organization (ILO)
4. Lawyers Committee for Human Rights
5. Human Rights Watch
6. United Nations Foundation Some of these agencies have branches in countries across the world including Nigeria.
7. National Human Rights Commission (NHRC)
8. Office of the Public Defender (ODP)

The roles of Individuals and Groups In UDHR include:

1. Every individual should be conscious of their rights as citizens and be ready to claim them at any point in time.
2. Every individual should be ready to acquire more knowledge about human rights.
3. Individuals should participate in joining human rights groups to promote respect for all human rights.
4. They should participate in casting their vote during the election for political parties or candidates who believe in the protection of human rights.
5. Have respect for the rights of their fellow beings. Individuals should not participate in abusing the rights of their fellow beings.
6. Individuals should participate in giving financial support to human rights abuse victims.
