Puberty is the period during which growing boys and girls reach sexual maturity and become capable of reproduction. It usually starts between ages 8 and 13 in girls and ages 9 and 15 in boys. Its signs include changes in body shape, voice and hair growth. Good personal hygiene helps young people handle these changes.
Behavioural objectives
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
- define puberty, menstruation, menarche, the menstrual cycle and adolescence;
- list pubertal changes in boys;
- list pubertal changes in girls;
- state some concerns of adolescents;
- describe ways of handling pubertal changes through personal care.
